Toronto, ON.
Second Slumber, an Okanagan start-up, was invited to pitch to the Dragons’ on Dragons’ Den in Toronto, Ontario on May 2nd, 2022.
Dragons’ Den is a Canadian reality show where entrepreneurs pitch their business to a panel of well-known investors (Dragons’).
"We're so grateful to have the opportunity to spread the word about Second Slumber's mission to provide Canadians with better sleep at an incredible price. The Mattress industry is struggling to handle the open-box returns generated by the risk free 100-night trial. As a result, an estimated 50,000 perfectly good beds were sent to landfill last year, as there was no way to resell them. “We’re solving a huge environmental problem in the mattress industry while giving back to our communities and providing unprecedented access to almost brand new and now more affordable mattresses." said Rick Maddison The company’s Executive Director.
Thanks to their innovative online mattress matching, customers can shop local returns of high-end, brand name, open-box mattresses and even verify condition and it's like new status. Most beds last a decade so there is tons of lifespan left when a 100-night trial is initiated.
Second Slumber is Canada’s first and only factory authorized mattress reseller that has successfully verified their partners as being a zero-waste retailer. With a commitment to building a circular economy, They are also proud to donate partial proceeds from each mattress sold by Second Slumber to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Prior to the appearance on the Den, Second Slumber announced the completion of an 18 month pilot program with Haven Sleep Co. Scott Amis, CEO of Haven Sleep Co. mentioned "As our business expands the time and effort dedicated to returns increases. Second Slumber is doing an amazing job at keeping up a high level of service with our returned and exchanged mattresses. Every Haven finds a home and they're helping us achieve our environmental initiatives by lowering our eco-footprint. Our customers are thrilled to know that changing their mind on a bed won’t result in it going to a landfill.
Second Slumber participated in the taping of the popular CBC television show where Rick Maddison pitched Second Slumber's innovative business model to six possible shareholders. These Dragons’ are looking for investments to scale up and invest in the next best business model. CBC is in the process of airing Dragons’ Den 16th season, giving aspiring Canadian entrepreneurs like Second Slumber, the platform to pitch their ideas in hopes to secure financing and partnerships.
Second Slumber is excited to announce that their Dragons’ Den episode should air in the fall of 2022. Did they make a deal? You’ll have to turn in to see.
